The Lord Hears and Delivers

Psalm 139:1–18 (ASV)

1O Jehovah, thou hast searched me, and known me.

2Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising;

Thou understandest my thought afar off.

3Thou searchest out my path and my lying down,

And art acquainted with all my ways.

4For there is not a word in my tongue,

But, lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether.

5Thou hast beset me behind and before,

And laid thy hand upon me.

6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

It is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7Whither shall I go from thy Spirit?

Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there:

If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there.

9If I take the wings of the morning,

And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10Even there shall thy hand lead me,

And thy right hand shall hold me.

11If I say, Surely the darkness shall overwhelm me,

And the light about me shall be night;

12Even the darkness hideth not from thee,

But the night shineth as the day:

The darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

13For thou didst form my inward parts:

Thou didst cover me in my mother’s womb.

14I will give thanks unto thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:

Wonderful are thy works;

And that my soul knoweth right well.

15My frame was not hidden from thee,

When I was made in secret,

And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16Thine eyes did see mine unformed substance;

And in thy book they were all written,

Even the days that were ordained for me,

When as yet there was none of them.

17How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!

How great is the sum of them!

18If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:

When I awake, I am still with thee.

Psalm 121:1–8 (ASV)

1I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains:

From whence shall my help come?

2My help cometh from Jehovah,

Who made heaven and earth.

3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved:

He that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4Behold, he that keepeth Israel

Will neither slumber nor sleep.

5Jehovah is thy keeper:

Jehovah is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6The sun shall not smite thee by day,

Nor the moon by night.

7Jehovah will keep thee from all evil;

He will keep thy soul.

8Jehovah will keep thy going out and thy coming in

From this time forth and for evermore.

Psalm 17:8 (ASV)

8Keep me as the apple of the eye;

Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Matthew 23:37 (ASV)

37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

1 Corinthians 10:1–4 (ASV)

For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3and did all eat the same spiritual food; 4and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.

Hebrews 4:15–16 (ASV)

15For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need.

Psalm 34:17 (ASV)

17The righteous cried, and Jehovah heard,

And delivered them out of all their troubles.

And his kingdom ruleth over all.

Psalm 68:4 (ASV)

4Sing unto God, sing praises to his name:

Cast up a highway for him that rideth through the deserts;

His name is Jehovah; and exult ye before him.

Psalm 145:18 (ASV)

18Jehovah is nigh unto all them that call upon him,

To all that call upon him in truth.

Psalm 55:16–22 (ASV)

16As for me, I will call upon God;

And Jehovah will save me.

17Evening, and morning, and at noonday, will I complain, and moan;

And he will hear my voice.

18He hath redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me;

For they were many that strove with me.

19God will hear, and answer them,

Even he that abideth of old, Selah

The men who have no changes,

And who fear not God.

20He hath put forth his hands against such as were at peace with him:

He hath profaned his covenant.

21His mouth was smooth as butter,

But his heart was war:

His words were softer than oil,

Yet were they drawn swords.

22Cast thy burden upon Jehovah, and he will sustain thee:

He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.
