Purpose of the SSNET Email List

Our overall purpose is to encourage each other in the study of God's Word and the spreading of the gospel and the Three Angels' messages as we look forward to the return of our magnificent and soon-coming Savior. To that end, we encourage the following through our email discussion list:

  • Active discussion of the SS lesson and theme
  • General discussion of the quarterly theme
  • Sharing of teaching notes and ideas among SS teachers

How to Subscribe to SSNET

Anyone is welcome to join SSNET. We have over 600 members from around the world (from at least 36 countries) and from many faiths.

     end

You should quickly receive confirmation of the success of your request.

To unsubscribe, send a note to
<listserv@andrews.edu> with this message in the body of the note:

     unsubscribe ssnet  (or ssnetdaily)
     end

Please be sure to unsubscribe before you change email accounts or before you leave on vacation if your server allows you limited space for email storage. You can re-subscribe as soon as you get back.

If you need help in subscribing or unsubscribing, you may  being sure to indicate which email address is subscribed or you wish to have subscribed and the name of the list to which you are or wish to be subscribed.

How the List Works

SSNET is a moderated email discussion list. This means that all notes submitted to the list are reviewed by a moderator before they are distributed to all members of the list.

The following individuals are currently serving as moderators:

  • - Moderator team coordinator
  • Dave Albrecht - Discussion list moderator. (Dave's personal page)
  • Maurice Ashton - Discussion list moderator (Maurice's page at Avondale)
  • - Discussion list moderator. (Bob's personal page)

Guide Lines for Posting

  1. Posts should be relevant to the Sabbath School discussion, the quarterly theme, Sabbath School teaching methods, or to Sabbath School organization in general.

  2. All posts are expected to show Christian love and respect for other members of the list. Any post deemed to be unduly argumentative or or otherwise opposed to a spirit of friendly inquiry will be returned to the sender for revision.

  3. Since this is a Seventh-day Adventist list, notes that appear to attack the SDA church and/or doctrines will not be posted. However, our policy leaves room for posts that critically analyze SDA doctrines and/or policies pertaining to the Sabbath School.

  4. Ellen White is accepted as a messenger of the Lord in the SDA church, and her status is not up for discussion on this list.

  5. Should a post be returned to you, you are invited to re-evaluate, edit, and re-submit. Please do not attempt to argue with a moderator.

Some Helpful Suggestions

  1. All notes for posting to the list should be addressed to <ssnet@andrews.edu>.

  2. Preface the subject line with the lesson number to which your comment applies.
EXAMPLE: "03: The Pearl of Great Price"
Our host computer automatically adds the prefix "SSNET:"

  3. Include your full name and email address in the body of every post, preferably at the top of the message.

  4. When you include text from someone else, please indicate the name of the original contributor.

  5. Quote only the most relevant parts of an earlier post. Moderators may strip away excess quoted materials, but it is time-consuming for them to have to do so. So please don't send back a whole post just to say, "I agree." In general, moderators tolerate more quoted material in the first response of a post initiating a thread. All further responders need only quote a minimum portion of the original note, for identification purposes.

  6. NEVER send attachments to this list.

  7. If you wish to respond to several posts on the same topic, you may combine these in one post.

  8. It is often appropriate to send a personal note of appreciation to a contributor rather than posting to the whole net. (Contributors' email addresses are clearly indicated on each post.)

  9. If your Sabbath starts before Sabbath in the USA, Americans would be delighted to read a summary of your SS class, in preparation for their own SS classes. :-)

We hope that this forum will provide an environment in which you may find fellowship and be encouraged to grow in the love and service of God.

The Sabbath School quarterly is on-line at http://www.ssnet.org/qrtrly/index.html

Yours in His service,

Some Background

SSNET was formed by lay members of the SDA church as a forum to discuss the SDA weekly Sabbath School Lessons for adults, published by the SDA General Conference Sabbath School department.

This list is indebted to Andrews University and Dan Bidwell insofar that the computer which hosts SSNET is physically housed at Andrews University and runs smoothly under Dan Bidwell's management. However, SSNET is not officially sponsored by either Andrews University or the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
